Through one- if not several- layers of glass, carefully scattered seashells, salt water droplets, photos modified through layers of filters and backlit by an ipad, and the extra layer of photographing an original photo onscreen to produce another original photo, these artworks highlight the need to see and know through layers cloaking reality.
Our curiosity about the ocean is especially compelling. The whale watch is a trope for attempting to see the elusive- was that a whale we saw? Where was it? Frequent utterances and frustration whalewatching are reflected in the first series through the spatter of salty ocean water. This features a modified photo shot on Egypt Beach where infrequent whale sightings from the shore generate a lot of interest, pointing, and where is it’s.
